Why is my ice machine breaking down?
The ideal temperature inside an ice maker is between 0- and -5-degrees Fahrenheit (-18 degrees Celsius). Any higher than this and that is a clear sign that your ice maker is malfunctioning. Now, while there are many reasons for your ice machine to not be working properly, we strongly recommend that you not try and do any repairs on your own. If you don’t have the skills or the necessary tools, then you risk causing more damage to your appliance that the warranty doesn’t cover. Hiring a professional saves you time, money and headaches. They are highly trained for anything that could go wrong and know all of the proper precautions to take.
Common Issues That Ice Makers Face
Ice Maker Won’t Turn On
The ice maker’s mechanical arm may be behind this. When the ice bin fills with ice, the mechanical arm adjusts itself, pausing the machine. If the arm got stuck or was tampered with, then the ice-making won’t continue.
If the water line or filter has been compromised through clogs or blockages, then the machine won’t produce any ice, either.
The water inlet valve might also be clogged and require cleaning.
Most of these problems can be rectified through proper cleaning or replacing any broken parts.
Ice Maker is Leaking
First, check to see if the ice maker is on a level surface. If the supply line has been damaged, then you need to get it replaced. If nothing changes, then give us a call. If left unattended, leaks can cause damage to your floor and other surfaces. We can help you close up the leaks before this happens.
If the ice that your ice maker dispenses tastes or looks strange, then you may need to repair or replace the water filter or the inlet valve. You may also want to check the mechanism to make sure that nothing got caught in it.
If the ice mold heater or the circuitry is malfunctioning, then the ice maker will not eject ice properly.
When Should I Consider a Replacement?
If the machine is supplied with good water and is maintained often, then its life span is about five years. If your ice maker is any older, then you may need to consider a replacement. Not only can we help you find a new unit, we can help you install it.
